Sam Fender has given the complete sum of his £25k award winnings to the trust for venues, which functions to protect the United Kingdom's independent concert spaces.

He was awarded the award on 16 October as his new release his work was chosen as the outstanding release of the last 12 months.

The musician has decided to hand the money over to the MVT, in appreciation of the crucial part local spots played in his early career.

"I would not have achieved this success if it wasn't for all the shows I performed around the area, and beyond, when I was starting out," stated the artist. "These locations are renowned, but they are facing challenges."

Beginning in 2023, over 150 of these spaces have shut down – approximately 16 percent of the total UK scene.

In the last year, top acts such as Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all aided the trust in its initiatives to support the industry, by adding a modest fee to their admission fees, which goes to help smaller concert halls.

He also participated, raising in excess of £100,000 on his live tour to support 38 local spots across Britain.

These funds helped venues that were dealing with possible closure due to issues arising from floods, blazes and bereavements, as well as permit problems, legal disputes and noise complaints.

Other venues obtained financial assistance in improving infrastructure and sound and lighting systems that directly benefitted performers and concertgoers.

"The concept that funds from performances in major spaces supports the smaller venues, where it all starts for musicians like me, is just sensible," Fender has commented.

He is far from the only musician to give his honor winnings to worthy causes.

Back when the band earned the prize in the year 1996 for their release the album, frontman the singer announced that the group would donate their prize money to the charity the charity.

That year, artist Ms Dynamite split her bounty across multiple charities, like the NSPCC and a Sickle Cell organization.

"Additionally, I donated a £1,000 to my local community centre, to their gymnastics class, because I did gymnastics when I was younger and they required new equipment," Ms Dynamite shared with the media.

Two years ago, they donated their winnings to the community center that supported their act, in addition to other independent music bodies.

And 1994 winners the group donated their prize to a multiple sclerosis charity after a close contact was identified with the illness.

"The victory was sufficient," stated vocalist Heather Small. "The money was the extra but we could do without the cherry, because we had the honor. So our success affected somebody else's life."

Last week, the trust announced it had rescued several small stages in the South East, by bringing them into community ownership.

One venue in that area and The Croft in the city were acquired under the public acquisition initiative, which is supported by the arts council and supporters who purchase "ownership units" in the venues.
