Toy Story 5 Teaser Pits The Beloved Duo Versus a Tablet Computer
It has been 30 years after the original Toy Story movie debuted, establishing Pixar as a major film company and introducing audiences to iconic figures like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now household names.
In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a glimpse into the plot but leaving viewers curious how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Frightens the Gang
The preview reveals Bonnie — who inherited the toy collection when he grew up — getting a latest plaything, one that alarms the familiar toy group. She acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.
Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters seem to view it as a threat coming to replace them, which it probably is.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
One thing the trailer doesn't touch on is what Woody is returned with his companions in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a new adventure with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), journeying with a fair and assisting prize toys find good homes.
Certainly, the filmmakers will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him appear in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have come back with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?
Connections from the Previous Film
At the very least, some elements are continuing from the prior film. The final act the cowboy did before setting off for his new life was pass his symbol of authority to Jessie (the voice actor), leaving her in charge of the toy domain. In the teaser displays the insignia pinned to her shirt.
It is hoped she is remains the key figure among the toys.
